First of All...
First of all, the Bible is a whole. We may look at book, chapter and verse, bit God wrote it as ONE work.
(2 Tim 3:16-17 HNV) Every writing inspired by God is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction which is in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
I like the CJB better...
(2 Tim 3:16-17 CJB) All Scripture is God-breathed and is valuable for teaching the truth, convicting of sin, correcting faults and training in right living; 17 thus anyone who belongs to God may be fully equipped for every good work.
The first thing you have to understand is that the Word of God does NOT conflict with itself! People who are having a problem calling the Lord Yeshua, usually also have elaborate explanations as to why the Bible does not mean what it says! Believe me, God meant everything he allowed to be recorded in the scriptures, and says the Lord inspired it!
Do what I do...
(1 Cor 11:1 HNV) Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Messiah.
It is clear that the God Breathed Inspired Scripture wants us to be imitators of the early Disciples and not just religious people wise in our own eyes. These are foundations on which the whole of Bible understanding is built.
Do you know the way to San Jo-See?
Do you know the way to San Jose? Do you remember the song? The song is in English but the town name is sung "San Ho-say!" This is because throughout history, when you travel from one place to another you do not change your name!
Archbishop Archibald Campbell Tait, Tate or Teyt?
In the church of England an Archbishop took the name "Tait" or in Scottish, "friend". Archbishop Tait spelled his name like the Scottish, wait, meaning to serve as in "wait upon the Lord" or "to wait tables" for a living.
As Archbishop Tait was royalty and well known, when people sailed to America they would often adopt the name as their own. However, having poor language skills, they could only pronounce the name Tait, but it was up to the American immigration officials to write it - they usually wrote TATE! The Tait's of America almost all came later and are virtually all related to Archbishop Archibald Campbell Tait, although his only son died.
The Americans Transliterated (Not translated) the Scottish word "Tait" into the into a more common written form in America, Tate! The same as if I were to try to write Tait in Cebuano it would come out "Teyt!"
Translation or Transliteration? Not the Same!
A Translation is to substitute a word or thought in one language to another. Like isda for fish!
A Transliteration is to SPELL a name in a different alphabet. For example Tait, Tate and Teyt. The goal of Transliteration is that the original name's SOUND stays the same or as close as possible to the same from one language group to another. This has been the accepted norm in translating documents for thousands of years. To retain the original sound of the names. pr as close to that sound as possible.
The "liter" in Trans-liter-ation comes from the same root as literal! A literal sound for sound representation of a name! The Scottish Tait, the American Tate and the Cebuano Teyt all sound literally the same!
Jose, can you see? Oh Say, is that "Ho Say"?
That is why San Ho-Say (Jose!) doesn't sound like San Jo-See!
What did the Early Disciples Do?
It may come as a great surprise to some but the Early Disciples did exactly the same as everyone else!
Bible History...
Three Hundred years before Yeshua walked the earth, the Jews translated the Old Testimony from the original Hebrew to the common day Greek. We call this the Septuagint.
Iesous (Ιησους) the Greek Transliteration of the Hebrew Yeshua is found in the Septuagint many times as the replacement for the Hebrew Yeshua. Yeshua means ADONAI Saves or the Lord Saves! Iesous is meaningless in Greek!
A "Friend" Or What?
Tait in Scottish means "friend". Tate in America has no meaning beyond a family name. Teyt in the Philippines is just a way to get Filipinos to say our name as close as possible to being correct.
The Lord Saves?
(Mat 1:21 CJB) She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Yeshua, [which means `ADONAI saves,'] because he will save his people from their sins."
(Mat 1:21 HNV) She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Yeshua, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins."
Let's read the story in context...
Matthew 1:18-25
18 Now the birth of Yeshua the Messiah was like this; because when his mother, Miryam, had been engaged to Yosef, before they came together, she was found pregnant by the Ruach HaKodesh. 19 Yosef, her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, intended to put her away secretly. 20 But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Yosef, son of David, don't be afraid to take to yourself Miryam, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Ruach HaKodesh. 21 She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name Yeshua, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins." 22 Now all this has happened, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, 23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, And shall bring forth a son. They shall call his name Immanu'el;" Which is, being interpreted, "God with us." 24 Yosef arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself; 25 and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him Yeshua.
Yosef (Joseph) was a righteous man the Bible says. He was ok with Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) getting his wife pregnant! In fact, his only response was... Yosef arose from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took his wife to himself; 25 and didn't know her sexually until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He named him Yeshua.
"He named him Yeshua!"
Nearly all Jews accept that the Greek Iesous (Ιησους) is a Transliteration of the Hebrew Yeshus ( ישוע ). This relationship is born out in the 3rd century BC Septuagint (Greek Translation of the Old Testament.
In modern Hebrew, Yeshua (ישוע) is in fact the common transcriptions for the Greek Iesous (Ιησους).
The name Yeshua is extensively used by Messianic Jews and Hebrew Christians, as well as other Christian denominations, who wish to use his original Hebrew name.
A Hebrew God, a Hebrew Man and an angel that speaks Hebrew!
It doesn't take much to realize that a righteous man of God would expect any message from the God of the Hebrews to be delivered in Hebrew! It only makes sense to the Jews in our Lord's time because they understood the meaning of Yeshua!
The Early Disciples...
The early Disciples wrote with the transliteration of Yeshua into Greek.
Paul said that we should imitate him, we should likewise use the Transliteration of ישוע into English or Cebuano. That is clearly Yeshua - using nothing but the Bible!
NO OTHER NAME - the Bible says!
(Acts 4:10-12 CJB) 10 then let it be known to you and to all the people of Isra'el that it is in the name of the Messiah, Yeshua from Natzeret, whom you had executed on a stake as a criminal but whom God has raised from the dead, that this man stands before you perfectly healed. 11 "This Yeshua is the stone rejected by you builders which has become the cornerstone. 12 There is salvation in no one else! For there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by whom we must be saved!"
Another Yeshua (Jesus), A Different Good News!
"You put up with that well enough!"
(2 Cor 11:4 HNV) For if he who comes preaches another Yeshua, whom we did not preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you did not receive, or a different Good News, which you did not accept, you put up with that well enough.
(2 Cor 11:4 NASB) For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.
Every Knee Will Bow At What Name?
(Phil 2:9-11 HNV) 9 Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; 10 that at the name of Yeshua every knee would bow, of those in heaven, those on eretz, and those under the eretz, 11 and that every tongue would confess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God, the Father.
How Important Is A Name?
(Acts 2:38 HNV) Kefa said to them, "Repent, and be immersed, everyone of you, in the name of Yeshua the Messiah for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh.
(Acts 3:6 HNV) But Kefa said, "Silver and gold have I none, but what I have, that I give you. In the name of Yeshua the Messiah of Natzeret, rise and walk!"
(Acts 3:16 CJB) And it is through putting trust in his name that his name has given strength to this man whom you see and know. Yes, it is the trust that comes through Yeshua which has given him this perfect healing in the presence of you all.
(Acts 4:10 HNV) then let it be known to you and to all the people of Isra'el that it is in the name of the Messiah, Yeshua from Natzeret, whom you had executed on a stake as a criminal but whom God has raised from the dead, that this man stands before you perfectly healed.
(Acts 4:18-20 HNV) 18 They called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Yeshua. 19 But Kefa and Yochanan answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves, 20 for we can't help telling the things which we saw and heard."
(Acts 5:40 HNV) They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Yeshua, and let them go.
(Acts 8:12 HNV) But when they believed Pilipos preaching good news concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Yeshua the Messiah, they were immersed, both men and women.
(Acts 9:27 HNV) But Bar-Nabba took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared to them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Dammesek he had preached boldly in the name of Yeshua.
(Acts 10:48 HNV) He commanded them to be immersed in the name of Yeshua the Messiah. Then they asked him to stay some days.
(Acts 16:18 HNV) This she did for many days. But Sha'ul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I charge you in the name of Yeshua the Messiah to come out of her!" It came out that very hour.
In The Name Of Yeshua The Messiah!
Just to Recap:
The Bible says there is only ONE Name.
ALL Scolars AGREE that the name is NOT Jesus!
The Name Recorded in the Greek New Testament is the Transliteration of Yeshua!
The Early Disciples Used the Transliteration of Yeshua.
Yeshua was a known name amoung Hebrew men.
Yeshua in Hebrew means what the Angel told Joseph was the reason to name him that name!
300 years before Yeshua was Born the Greek Old Testament Septuagint Transliterate Yeshua into the Greek Iesous (Ιησους)
We should follow the Early Disciples example, the Bible says, and use the best Transliteration of Yeshua we can in our language, which is Yeshua.
Daniel Mace translated a "Secret New Testament in 1729. It was published anonymously. Until 1968 it was believed to be the work of his brother. Mace was the first person to put Jesus in a scriptural translation. About 1700 years after Yeshua died!

The Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon; Hendrickson Publishers 1996 ISBN 1-56563-206-0 says,
Jesus (pronounced /ˈdʒiːzəs/) is a transliteration, occurring in a number of languages and based on the Latin Iesus, of the Greek Ἰησοῦς (Iēsos), itself a Hellenisation of the Hebrew יהושע (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ישוע (Yeshua ), (Joshua), meaning "the Lord rescues" or "the Lord delivers."
Yeshua, spelled יֵשׁוּעַ (Yēă) or ישוע in Hebrew was a common name among Jews of the Second Temple Period, and is thought by some scholars[1][2] and religious groups[3] to be the Hebrew or Aramaic name for Jesus. In modern Hebrew, Yeshu (ישו) and Yeshua (ישוע) are in fact the common transcriptions for Jesus.
The name Yeshua is extensively used by Messianic Jews and Hebrew Christians, as well as other Christian denominations, who wish to use Jesus' Hebrew name.
Among the Jews of the Second Temple Period, the Biblical Aramaic/Hebrew name יֵוֹשֻׁשׁוּעַ Yeshua was common: the Hebrew Bible mentions several individuals with this name. This name is a feature of biblical books written in the post-Exilic period (Ezra, Nehemiah, and Chronicles) and was found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Strong's Concordance connects the name יֵוֹשֻׁשׁוּעַ Yeshua`, in the English form Jeshua (as used in multiple instances in Ezra, Nehemiah, and 1 and 2 Chronicles), with the verb "to deliver" (or, "to rescue").[4] It is often translated as "He saves," to comform with Matthew 1:21: "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins" (NASB).[5]

As for the jesus issue, well, for me this is simply a matter of believing what is in the original bible. Any mature disciple of the Lord will want to follow the Lord and I think it is significant that the early disciples ALL used a transliteration of the Lord's name, Yeshua! I would assume that any mature disciple would want to do the same.
It is a historical fact that the Roman controlled Catholic Church was the first to use a Latin transliteration of the Greek transliteration of Yeshua in error of using a direct transliteration of the name Yeshua. Thus, the Emperor Constantine, who instituted pagan rituals and formed the "church" (like the pagan cross, christmas tree and the "christ-mass" on the Pagan holy day of December 25). He redefined many words like church and pastor to allow him to control the believers. Remember, he DECLARED that all Roman Citizens were "Christian" the first real use of the term, within so called believers, that came to replace Yeshua's term - disciples.
Later the church of England transliterated the already corrupt Latin translateration in a power struggle with the Roman Catholics. This is all historical fact. It wasn't until the Daniel Mace New Testament in 1729 that the word "jesus" appeared in any scripture anywhere. However, believing Jews have always to this day called the Son of God Yeshua - that is what a mature disciple would do.
Just as the early disciples did, they started with the name Yeshua, transliterated it into their own Greek writing and spoke the name of Yeshua! And made a big point of it over and again that there is power in the name of Yeshua in the New Testament. Mature disciples will want to do what Peter, James, John and Paul did!
As for Daniel Mace, he is a shady character. His name appears on the rolls of freemasonry at the time a place he lived. He published his New Testament in 1729 but it would take nearly 240 years for the majority of the world to know what he did - BECAUSE HE HID THE FACTS!
It is an undisputed fact that this man of questionable character and secret writings gave the world the name jesus to replace the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah! These are simple facts that anyone can find in Bible history and are easy to document.
It is common knowledge that Yeshua was used for a few hundred years before our Lord's birth. It is found in the Old Hebrew Testament and it means exactly what the angel told Joseph. the word jesus does not qualify on any of these accounts. To accept jesus you must accept that the Roman Catholic Church lead by a pagan worshiping Emperor was Divinely inspired to not follow the example of the first disciples and instead start making up words to call the Lord!
Because I reject that a pagan Emperor leading the Roman Catholic Church, I also reject the renaming of the Lord Yeshua. I believe the first disciples were correct. They WROTE Yeshua in the language of the day - a transliteration of Yeshua into Greek - and they Spoke the in the Name of Yeshua the Messiah!
